To podcast or vodcast ?- that is the question.

The 'Kidcast' podcast was quite useful in the respect that it gave some clarity about the use and production of podcasts and vodcasts in an educational setting.

Both podcasts and vodcast appear to require a lot of time for production especially vodcasts even if you are doing a 'no frills' job on the editing of the video footage.  Before uploading either it would also require the teacher to spend a considerable amount of time reviewing the content to  ensure it is suitable and because they are publicly available to ensure students have not used their real names or included any personal information.

It was a useful hint to keep your production to an 80%(Content)/20%(Production) ratio.I think this ratio would be very difficult to maintain in a primary school setting.  Keeping it very simple an d to start small is the key.

Personally I have started to access podcasts for entertainment and information and think they are really valuable. In review, I see the usefulness of these mediums however I think the production of them would be quite work intensive and I would need to be really sure that the production of the podcast or vodcast would be highly valuable to the student's learning needs.  I think at this stage I would prefer to use already produced podcasts and vodcasts as a tool to enhance my program.

  1. I would agree that with the amount of excellent resources already out there versus the level of effort you need to go to create your own it's probably best to use what is there already. Less effort for probably the same outcome.
